Description
Matt has over 18 years of experience investing across the middle market, with a focus on founder- and family-owned businesses.
Matt founded Third Space Capital in October 2024. As Founder and Managing Partner, he is responsible for all aspects of the Firm’s activities, including chairing the Investment Committee, sourcing, due diligence, transaction execution, value creation and monitoring, and overall firm management encompassing strategy, operations, hiring, and training.
Before founding Third Space Capital, Matt was a Managing Director at The Carlyle Group, where he was a founding member of the Carlyle Credit Opportunities Fund (“CCOF”). At Carlyle, he was responsible for originating, structuring, and executing investments with a particular focus on media & entertainment, business & consumer services, and transportation & logistics. During his tenure, Carlyle raised three successive funds under the CCOF platform totaling more than $12.5 billion between 2019 and 2024.
Prior to joining Carlyle, Matt spent over nine years at Guggenheim Partners, where he was a Managing Director and helped scale the firm’s investment platform, develop new strategies, and oversee investments in the technology, media, and telecommunications sectors. He began his career at MJX Asset Management, where he worked for three years.
Matt received a Bachelor of Science in Finance and International Business from New York University’s Stern School of Business, where he served as President of the NYU Parliamentary Debate Team. He remains actively involved with NYU and currently advises MBA candidates at the Stern School of Business as an executive-in-residence.
Matt serves on the board of Futures & Options, a non-profit organization supporting career development for underserved youth.
