Michael Gubbels joined Dawson in 2015 and has over 18 years of private equity and investment banking experience. Prior to joining Dawson, Michael spent five years in the direct private equity programs at OTPP and OMERS and was responsible for sourcing, executing and managing direct private equity investments in North America and Europe. During his time at OTPP and OMERS, Michael was involved in the acquisition of several major platform investments (PODS, Caliber Collision Centers, Vue Entertainment), successful exits (Nordco Inc., Secondary Sale of OMERS Fund Portfolio) and recapitalizations (PODS, Maxxam Analytics Intl. Corp., Give & Go Prepared Foods Corp., Nordco Inc.). In addition to his transactional experience, Michael has participated on the board of several portfolio companies (PODS, Caliber Collision Centers, Nordco) and provided strategic and operational oversight to a number of OMERS and OTPP’s investments (PODS, Camelot Group, Caliber Collision Centers, Nordco Inc., Give & Go Prepared Foods, Maxxam Analytics Intl. Corp, Affinia Group).
Prior to his time at OMERS and OTPP, Michael was part of the investment banking group at CIBC World Markets where he was involved in over 30 successful mandates totalling over C$15 billion including: mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt financings and restructuring mandates across a broad range of sectors. Michael holds an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Wilfrid Laurier University.
