Description
Alain Godard is a European financial executive and investor. He is the founder and Chairman of the European Fund for Digital Sovereignty, also known as the European Tech Champions Initiative, created to support late-stage European technology companies.
Career
In 2023, Alain Godard founded the European Fund for Digital Sovereignty, a 4 bn euros pan-European investment initiative dedicated to financing strategic technology scale-ups.
From 2019, he served as Chief Executive Officer of the European Investment Fund (EIF), overseeing approximately €80 billion in assets under management. During his tenure, the EIF strengthened its focus on innovation and technology financing. He also chaired the Investment Committee.
In 2013, Godard was Director General and Chief Risk Officer of the European Investment Bank (EIB). He was responsible for asset and liability management and strategic asset allocation. He contributed to the creation of major European financial mechanisms, including the European Fund for Strategic Investments (EFSI), the European Financial Stability Facility (EFSF), and the European Stability Mechanism (ESM).
He also founded and chaired the Global Emerging Markets (GEMs) consortium, which brings together multilateral development banks and international financial institutions to improve risk/return data and invest in emerging markets.
Education
Godard holds a postgraduate degree (DES) in Finance, the DEC and an MBA from ICN Business School.

He is a former high-level competitive athlete.
