Maya A.Z. Rodriguez has over 20 years of experience in the global asset management industry, advising and partnering with leading alternative investment managers and institutional investors across EMEA and beyond.
She is the Founder and CEO of AZR Capital, a principal investor and specialist advisory boutique focused on capital formation, strategic positioning, and institutional marketing for alternative asset managers. AZR Capital works closely with managers not only to raise capital, but to refine investment narratives, rethink go-to-market strategies, and deliver highly targeted, investor-relevant messaging that resonates with sophisticated allocators across Europe and the Middle East where AZR is deeply embedded.
AZR was among the earliest platform in Europe to back and intermediate independent sponsors, a segment that remains a key differentiator.
In parallel, Maya oversees AZR Capital’s investment activities, focused on identifying nimble, high-quality managers with differentiated strategies and the ability to generate niche, uncorrelated alpha. While AZR’s heritage is in buyout strategies, the platform has also supported established managers in credit and real estate, consistently prioritizing strong performance, deep sector expertise, and clear differentiation.
Prior to founding AZR Capital, Maya led global sales, marketing, branding, and communications at 36 South, where she was a member of the Senior Management Group. She played a pivotal role in building 36 South’s institutional franchise, helping attract a global base of highly sophisticated investors and establishing the firm as a leader in volatility and tail-risk strategies.
Maya has also been a long-standing advocate for volatility as an institutional asset class. She founded and curated a series of industry-leading educational forums bringing together investors, academics, consultants, and managers, while raising significant funds for charitable causes.
Earlier in her career, Maya was a senior investment analyst at Barclays Global Investors (BGI) within the Client Solutions Group. She holds an MSc in Banking and International Finance from Cass Business School, a BA in Economics from the American University of Beirut, and is an affiliate member of the CFA Institute.
Maya serves as Treasurer of the Board of Trustees of Woman’s Trust, a London-based charity supporting women affected by domestic abuse. She is fluent in English, French, Spanish, and Arabic.
